
Taruijuku was the starting point of Mino-ji and the important starting point for traffic on the Nakasendo road. The still-existing Hatago “Kamemaruya” will let you look back on that time.

This was Mino Province's Ichi-no-Miya and is the head shrine of all shrines in Japan for the mining and metals industry. Eighteen structures, including Honden (main shrine building) and Romon (two-storied gate), are designated as national important cultural properties, and on May 5 the Reitai-sai Festival is held.

Takenaka was an excellent strategist who supported the unification of the whole country by Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI. Historical sites such as the ruins of the jinya and castle remain in the Iwade region, his home ground.

This is famous for cherry blossoms in spring and red leaves in autumn. It has the oldest temple bell in Gifu, and Honji-do (hall of the Buddha’s true form) and a three-storied pagoda which are designated as national important cultural properties.

Tarui-cho was also where the Battle of Sekigahara, a fateful battle, was fought. The ruins of base camps for 7 busho (military commanders) from the East Camp and the West Camp still remain.
