Nishimino has a long-lasting tradition, where eastern and western cultures have encountered each other from ancient times and where the Battle of Sekigahara, which influenced the history of Japan, took place. You can experience these traditions in the festivals of Nishimino.

This is a New Year's event held within the precincts of Akiha Shrine. It is a Shinto ritual where the young run around a blazing bamboo miniature shrine and “worship fire and pray to prevent fires”.

養老町 町の防火を祈願する養老の春祭 高田まつり

This is a spring festival to pray for the prevention of fires, where Homusubi-no-Kami (fire deity) in Atago Shrine is dedicated. The magnificent floats in which Kagura (Shinto music and dance) and Karakuri (string puppet) are displayed while running through the town are a great highlight.
