Memories of the scenery in my childhood home of Ōgaki served as inspiration in the creation of this film. I would like to thank the people of Ōgaki, without whose cooperation this film would not have been possible. I hope you enjoy the film.

Ōgaki is located in the approximate center of the Japanese archipelago along major traditional highways like the Nakasendō and Minoji. Ōgaki has long thrived as a cultural and economic crossroads for East and West Japan, and has served as the setting for major historical events such as the Battle of Sekigahara.
It is also called ‘The Water City’ due to the quantity and purity of underground springs welling up at many points in the city.
Ōgaki was the final destination of the haiku poet Matsuo Bashō’s “Oku no Hosomichi.” Along with the Sumiyoshi Lighthouse and the river boats at the remains of port in Funamachi that serve as reminders of that time, there are many monuments to Bashō and his followers in Ōgaki.
One can get a feel for Bashō’s journey by walking along the ‘mini Oku no Hosomichi’ set up along the Suimon River (which forms the outer moat of Ōgaki Castle), while enjoying the seasonal flowers, the water and the natural greenery.
